Moore is More by Tom Moore

Tom Moore’s fantastical hybrid creatures, crafted expertly in hand blown and solid glass, inhabit a busy aqua-metropolis perching in ponds and bustling along skyscraper-lined streets. Recently exhibited at the MCA in Making it New: Focus on Contemporary Australian Art, Tom has created a vibrant installation of filled ponds and corrugated cardboard cities in the gallery’s back room. Exotic stripy birds and potatoes riddled with eyes (literally!) thrive in this unique eco-system, which has spawned strange mutant variations adapted to their environments - fish-potato hybrid with both wings and wheels. These creatures have taken on the characteristics of a man-made world and turned them on itself – one work is a baby kookaburra perched triumphantly on a car, whilst another car is led away on the back of a truck, engulfed by the tentacles of a giant squid.
